DS Polo clinch 3rd President of Pakistan Polo Cup National Open title

DS Polo emerged triumphant in a thrilling showdown against FG Polo, clinching the coveted trophy in the 3rd President of Pakistan Polo Cup National Open Championship Finale 2024. The grand finale, held at the Jinnah Polo Fields in Lahore, witnessed DS Polo outpacing FG Polo with a final score of 12-7.


Sponsored by Askari Bank, Habib Metro Bank, and Faysal Bank, along with Sitara Chemicals, the event showcased outstanding polo skills and teamwork. Max Charlton, delivering an impressive performance, scored seven goals for DS Polo, supported by Ahmed Ali Tiwana, Daniyal Sheikh, and Nico Roberts, each contributing a goal. FG Polo, led by Mian Abbas Mukhtar, showcased a commendable effort, with Raul Laplacette and Raja Mikael Sami adding two goals each.


The match unfolded in a series of intense chukkers, with DS Polo taking an early lead in the opening chukker, securing a 1-0 advantage. The second chukker saw both teams pushing hard, resulting in a 3-3 score. DS Polo strategically regained the lead in the third chukker with a 5-4 advantage. The fourth chukker proved decisive as DS Polo showcased exceptional skill, extending their lead to 10-4. Despite a spirited effort from FG Polo in the final chukker, DS Polo sealed their victory with a final score of 12-7.


Field umpires Nico Scortichini and Mark John Holmes ensured a fair and competitive match, witnessed by a large audience of polo enthusiasts. Distinguished guests, including Chief Secretary Punjab Zahid Akhtar Zaman and senior representatives from the sponsoring banks, added to the event's prestige.


The finale also featured a captivating display of archery, a parade of antique cars, and Harley-Davidson motorcycles, enhancing the festive atmosphere. In the subsidiary final, Master Paints/Diamond Paints secured victory against BN Polo with a score of 9-8.


During the prize distribution ceremony, standout performers were honored. Max Charlton received the Most Valuable Player Award for a Foreigner, Zakaria Dawood was recognized as the Emerging Talent, and the Spirit of Polo Award was presented to Director Rijas Faisal Shahzad. Raja Temur Nadeem was honored with the Most Improved Player award, while category-specific awards celebrated players demonstrating remarkable improvement and skill in different goal categories.
