Champions Trophy, Tri-Nation Series to be held in Pakistan: Naqvi
By our correspondent
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman and Federal
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi revealed that both the Champions Trophy and a
tri-nation series will be hosted in Pakistan in 2025.
Mohsin Naqvi took to Twitter to share the exciting news,
stating, "I attended the ICC meeting in Dubai, and God willing, the
Champions Trophy will be held in Pakistan in February 2025." He further
mentioned discussions with the Chairman of New Zealand Cricket, Roger Twose,
and the Chairman of South Africa Cricket, Lawson Naidoo, regarding the upcoming
events.
This announcement marks a significant milestone for
Pakistan cricket, bringing high-profile international tournaments to the
country's cricketing landscape. The Champions Trophy, a prestigious tournament
featuring top cricketing nations, will showcase Pakistan's capability to host
world-class cricket events. Additionally, the tri-nation series will provide an
opportunity for thrilling cricketing action on home soil.
Meanwhile, the PCB has been actively working on
finalizing the coaching staff for the national team. Former Australian
cricketer Shane Watson was considered a strong contender for the position of
head coach. However, due to personal commitments and pre-planned family
engagements, Watson had to withdraw from consideration.
Discussions between the PCB and Watson had initially
progressed positively, given his experience and expertise in cricket. However,
no further talks have taken place since Watson's return from coaching the
Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Consequently, Watson's
candidacy for the head coach role has been ruled out, prompting the PCB to
explore other potential candidates for the position.
The announcement of hosting major international
tournaments coupled with ongoing efforts to strengthen the coaching staff
underscores Pakistan's commitment to advancing cricket at both domestic and
international levels. As preparations unfold for these landmark events, cricket
fans eagerly anticipate witnessing top-quality cricketing action in their home
country.
