Kamran supports Babar resignation
By our correspondent
LAHORE: Former cricketer Kamran
Akmal expressed support for Babar Azam's decision to resign as Pakistan's
all-format captain. Akmal praised the move and showed confidence in the newly
appointed Test captain, Shan Masood.
He was talking to media on the
sideline of Peshawar Zalmi talent hunt trials on Friday.
He also commended Peshawar
Zalmi's initiative to conduct a talent hunt program, stating that it is a
positive step to discover talent across the country. Akmal emphasized the
importance of providing more opportunities to domestic players and acknowledged
the mistakes made by the previous management.
Regarding Wahab Riaz's potential
appointment as the chief selector, Akmal expressed hope that Riaz would do a
good job in building the team. He indicated his interest in working for
Pakistan but clarified that he prefers a role at the grassroots level and with
age-group teams.
Akmal mentioned that Peshawar
Zalmi has not discussed Naseem Shah's trade, and he urged support for players
during challenging times, citing the need for Aqib Javed to back the bowlers
who performed well for many years.
On the issue of message leakage
involving Babar Azam and PCB, Akmal refrained from commenting, considering it a
matter between Babar and the cricket board.
