In
a blockbuster move that’s set to electrify the Big Bash League, the Sydney
Sixers have officially signed Pakistan’s cricket superstar Babar Azam for the
upcoming KFC BBL|15 season.
This
is being hailed as one of the most significant signings in BBL history, as the
Sixers welcome one of modern cricket’s most celebrated batters to their squad.
Babar’s arrival is expected to bring not just class and consistency, but the
kind of match-winning firepower that fans crave.
Babar’s
unstoppable rise
With
over 10,000 international runs to his name across all formats, Babar Azam has
carved out a reputation as one of the world’s most dependable and elegant
cricketers. The former Pakistan captain led his nation in all three formats
from 2019 to 2024, guiding Pakistan to the 2021 ICC World Cup semi-final and
the 2022 World Cup final.
Known
for his calm demeanor and flawless stroke play, Babar has consistently been
ranked among the world’s top ODI and T20I batters in recent years. He was
crowned ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year in 2021 and 2022 and also earned the
title of ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year in 2022.
A
record-breaker through and through, Babar holds the record as the fastest
player in history to reach 5000 ODI runs, achieving the feat in just 97
innings.
A
global star joining the Sixers Family
The
Sixers have exercised their right to pre-sign one international player ahead of
the BBL|15 Draft, which will take place on Thursday, June 19. Babar Azam will

Speaking
about the signing, Sixers General Manager Rachael Haynes expressed her
excitement: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Babar to the Sixers this
summer.
His
skill, professionalism, and global experience will be invaluable to our squad.
This
is not just a win for the Sixers but for the league as a whole.
