Lahore Qalandars’ championship celebration took a diplomatic turn this week as team owner Atif Rana visited the United States Embassy in Islamabad. The visit was part of the franchise’s Pakistan Super League (PSL) trophy tour, following their third title win in just four years. At the embassy, Mr. Rana was warmly received by Chargé d'Affaires Natalie A. Baker, highlighting a growing cross-cultural appreciation for cricket between Pakistan and the United States.
The meeting wasn’t just ceremonial—it symbolized the power of sport to bridge global communities. Mr. Rana presented a signed Lahore Qalandars jersey to Ms. Baker, acknowledging her vocal support and presence at key matches during the PSL season.
Ms. Baker, who attended both a league-stage match and the thrilling final at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, expressed her admiration for the team’s determination and the electrifying atmosphere of live cricket. “Watching cricket live has been an incredible experience,” she said. “The passion of the fans at Gaddafi Stadium was inspiring. As an American, I grew up with baseball, and seeing cricket’s global reach—especially with both sports now included in the Olympics—is exciting.”
Atif Rana emphasized how cricket continues to serve as a unifying language across cultures. “We’re proud to bring the trophy to the U.S. Embassy and celebrate the spirit of the game,” he said. “Cricket is more than just a sport—it’s a bond that connects people, and we’re happy to strengthen that bond with our American friends.”
The Qalandars, now boasting three PSL titles—including consecutive wins in 2022 and 2023—are using their latest victory lap to promote cricket’s role in diplomacy and youth development. With a trophy tour that’s blending celebrations with outreach, the franchise is making a strong statement: winning on the field can also mean building meaningful bridges off it.
