Punjab Golf finalizes amateur teams after three-day trials

The Punjab Golf Association (PGA) wrapped up its three-day selection trials with the announcement of amateur boys’ and women’s teams, offering a glimpse into the promising depth of golf talent across the province. The event, spread over three competitive rounds, highlighted not only skill but also the mental toughness of young golfers aiming to break into the provincial circuit.

Boys’ line-up: Promise and potential

The boys’ team reflects a mix of youth, experience, and resilience:

  • Shameer Majid (Defence Raya) – the youngest entrant in the squad, winning admiration for his cool-headed consistency.

  • Sameer Iftikhar (Lahore Gymkhana) – a seasoned hand with a strong track record in domestic golf.

  • Sharan Ali Khan (Rawalpindi) – noted for his tactical approach and mental grit.

  • Ahmed Jibran (Lahore) – whose steady displays across all rounds secured him a well-deserved spot.

Adding depth to the roster, Abdul Moeez (Rawalpindi) was named as the reserve player, reflecting the competitive edge at this year’s trials.

Women’s team: Strengthening the fairways

On the women’s side, the PGA selectors settled on four golfers who bring contrasting yet complementary styles to the game:

  • Saqiba Batool

  • Rabia Tiwana

  • Shazadi Gulfam

  • Amina Tiwana

Their inclusion not only strengthens Punjab’s competitive squad but also signals the growing recognition and influence of women’s golf in the province.

Beyond selection: PGA’s larger commitment

While the trials served their immediate purpose of team selection, they also showcased PGA’s broader vision—investing in grassroots development, bridging the gap between amateur and elite levels, and ensuring equal opportunities for both male and female golfers. With youth golf gaining momentum nationwide, Punjab’s structured approach could be a game-changer in shaping the next generation of champions.
