Warwickshire and Lahore Qalandars unite for a game-changing global partnership

Cricket has always been more than just a sport—it’s a bridge that connects cultures, communities, and generations. Taking this spirit forward, Warwickshire County Cricket Club (WCCC) and Lahore Qalandars have joined hands in a groundbreaking global partnership that promises to redefine cricket development on both sides of the world.

This landmark collaboration, set to roll out formally in autumn 2025, will bring fresh energy to cricket in Birmingham, Warwickshire, and Lahore, blending tradition with innovation and passion with purpose. Starting in 2026, the joint venture will introduce:

  • Player and coach exchanges to sharpen skills and broaden exposure

  • Academy collaborations and scouting networks to spot and nurture the next generation of stars

  • Community outreach programs that will take cricket to the grassroots level

  • Commercial ventures and shared resources to ensure sustainability and long-term growth

Building on bold moves

The announcement comes hot on the heels of WCCC’s acquisition of Birmingham Phoenix in July 2025, in partnership with Knighthead LLP. That move marked a new era for the club’s ambitions, and this partnership with the Qalandars adds a strong global dimension.

Voices of vision

Speaking about the alliance, Abraham Khan, Finance Director of WCCC, stressed the wider picture: “This is not only about elite cricket—it’s about creating sustainable pathways, empowering youth, and using the game as a force for positive change.”

Echoing the same philosophy, Sameen Rana, COO of Lahore Qalandars, highlighted how the franchise’s vision aligns perfectly with the project: “Our philosophy has always been to think beyond boundaries. This partnership will elevate performance, expand global reach, and leave a lasting legacy for the future of the game.”

From exchange to strategic alliance

Interestingly, this partnership grew out of a successful Academy Tour to Lahore in March 2025, arranged by Raf Sabir, Finance Director at CVS, under the umbrella of the British Pakistan Initiative (BPI). What began as a cultural and sporting exchange has now evolved into a comprehensive cricketing alliance that blends passion, expertise, and vision for the future.

Why It matters

For fans, this means exciting cross-continental collaborations, more visibility for young talent, and fresh opportunities for communities to engage with cricket in meaningful ways. For the game itself, it represents how cricket can truly be used as a global force for unity, opportunity, and inspiration.
