What was supposed to be a predictable racing day at the Lahore Race Club turned into a rollercoaster of surprises, with outsiders stealing the show and favourites struggling to live up to the hype.
The Monsoon Cup meeting at the Lahore Race Club unfolded as an evening of unexpected outcomes, with virtually all pre-race favourites failing to justify their billing and a succession of outsiders seizing the spotlight.
The highlight? Flash, considered nothing more than a fluke chance, stormed to victory in the prestigious Monsoon Cup, leaving seasoned punters scratching their heads.
The drama began early. In the opening race, Mumraiz Love shocked the crowd by edging out hot favourite Shahan Shah, while Mehsi Babu ran into third, completing a result nobody saw coming.
The second race added to the trend as Generosity powered home, with the relatively unknown Absolutely Not claiming second, and Yesteryear sneaking into third.
The third contest saw Victory Bulbul live up to its name, leading from the front and beating favourite Multani Babu into second. Macs picked up third, while the rest were left chasing shadows.
Then came the Monsoon Cup, the main event of the evening. Against all expectations, Flash galloped past the field with ease to secure a famous win. Thunder Boy, another outsider, grabbed second, while strong place contender Son of Sultan had to settle for third.
The final race capped off the day’s surprises. Murtajil, ridden smartly by jockey Aftab Ch, ran past favourite Taj Mahal to clinch the win. Rashid Prince, considered nothing more than a long shot, secured third spot.
From start to finish, the day belonged to the underdogs. Fans came expecting favourites to dominate, but instead witnessed a racing card full of shocks, with Flash’s Monsoon Cup triumph sealing one of the most unpredictable days at the Lahore Race Club.
