Punjab Golf has fresh leadership, vows to drive growth

The Punjab Golf Association (PGA) has entered a new chapter in its journey as fresh leadership was elected and sworn in at a dignified ceremony hosted at the Lahore Garrison Greens Golf Club. The occasion marked more than just a change of office bearers—it signaled a renewed vision to push golf to greater heights in the province.

The newly elected office bearers are:

Brig Kamran Aslam – Secretary

Maj Gen (R) Saeed Nagra – Senior Vice President

Muhammad Ali Habib – Vice President

Brig (R) Irfan Barth – Joint Secretary

A vision beyond administration

While the ceremony carried the weight of tradition, the tone of the gathering was forward-looking. Brig Kamran Aslam, who now shoulders the role of Secretary, called for an aggressive push to broaden golf’s appeal. He pledged to “create more opportunities for emerging players and set higher benchmarks of skill and sportsmanship in Punjab.”

Golf in Punjab: Expanding the base

The PGA has mapped out a clear set of priorities under its new leadership:

More structured tournaments to engage golfers of varying levels.

Focused coaching programs to bring juniors and amateurs into the fold.

Closer collaboration with clubs to unify Punjab’s 26 affiliated institutions.

These measures aim to build on the foundation already in place. With 6,500 registered golfers across the province, Punjab represents the largest and most influential segment under the Pakistan Golf Federation (PGF).

Momentum in youth and amateur golf

The timing of this board’s election is significant. Amateur golf in Pakistan has been gathering pace, with youth championships revealing promising new names. For the PGA, this is the moment to channel that momentum into structured development and international exposure.

Looking ahead

If the promises made on Sunday are realized, Punjab could not only dominate the domestic golf scene but also nurture a steady stream of talent capable of competing on global fairways. The election of the new board is therefore more than a routine event—it may well be remembered as the beginning of a decisive new era for the sport in the province.
