JDW secures President’s Trophy quarter-final spot after dominant display

JDW, the development squad of
Multan Sultans, cemented their place in the quarter-finals of the President’s
Trophy Grade-II with a commanding performance against CDA at the Diamond
Cricket Ground.
After posting 343 for six in their allotted 75 overs on
Wednesday, JDW bowlers delivered a disciplined response, restricting CDA to 294
for seven in their innings. Despite a resilient 170-ball century from Azeem
Bari, who struck eight fours and two sixes, JDW’s bowling attack held firm.
Fast bowler Suliman Khan led the charge with three wickets for 40 runs, while
spinners Mehboob Ahmed and Muhammad Huzaifa shared four wickets between them.
At stumps on day two, JDW reached 86 for two, extending
their lead to 135 runs, effectively securing their top position in Group B and
ensuring qualification for the quarter-finals. They will now face the Group D
runners-up at Shoaib Akhtar Stadium starting May 19.
Key Performances
Ali Imran starred with the bat, scoring 168 runs,
supported by Haroon Arshad (35) and Jahanzaib Sultan (35).
Bowling heroics: Suliman Khan took 3-40, Mehboob Ahmed
2-41, and Muhammad Huzaifa 2-59.
CDA resistance: Azeem Bari’s 100 and Riazuddin’s 65 kept
their team competitive.
JDW’s Road to the Knockouts
JDW’s impressive run in the tournament includes securing
first-innings lead points against Ghani Institute and PHA Rawalpindi, along
with outright victories against OneTen Communication, JJ Consultancy, and Army.
With their quarter-final berth confirmed, JDW will aim to
extend their winning streak and push for the coveted trophy.
