Fan Tan Cup highlight of Sunday's LRC meeting

The Lahore Race Club is all set to host the 38th day of its 2024-25 winter meeting this Sunday, promising an exciting evening of thoroughbred competition. The day’s centerpiece is the prestigious Fan Tan Cup, scheduled as the final race on a six-race card that also includes five divisions of the May Plate series. The first race will get underway around 6:30 PM under the lights.
Race-by-Race Breakdown
Race 1 – The May Plate (Class-VII, Division-VI & VII) – 900m
A packed field of emerging sprinters opens the day’s action. Leo Star has attracted the spotlight as the favourite, with Land Cruiser backed for a place. Watch out for a surprise from I Shall Lead. Race 3 – The May Plate (Class-VII, Division-V & VI) – 900m
This race features Little Master as a firm favourite, with Zaman Sahib looking solid for a place. Rayaan Prince is being whispered as a potential fluke. The lineup also includes Mafnood JR, Self Belief, Pocket Power, Lucky Macs, Dur-e-Adan, Thunder Man (KRC), Naveed-e-Sahar, and Jahanbaz.
Race 4 – The May Plate (Class-VII, Division-III) – 900m
Rakaposhi is strongly fancied to win, while Deep Seek is expected to place. Outsider Thunder Boy (KRC) might surprise punters. Other challengers include Taj Mahal, Great One, Qalandar, and Zaid Prince.
Race 5 – The May Plate (Class-VII, Division-I & II) – 900m
Desert Crown is the clear favourite in this competitive heat. Wynx looks promising for place honours, while Sultan Prince may pull off an upset. Black Tiger, Son of Sultan, and Elizabeth round out the field.
Feature Race – The Fan Tan Cup (Class-V) – 1000m
The day will climax with The Fan Tan Cup, a high-stakes sprint over 1000 meters. Tiete, a consistent performer, enters as the favourite. Melisende has been training well and is expected to place, while Suicide Blonde could be the wild card. Marquises completes the quartet in what promises to be a thrilling finale.
