Alam clinches Third President PGA Professional Golf Title

The lush fairways of Defence Raya Golf Course, Lahore, witnessed a golfing spectacle as Mohammad Alam of Lahore Garrison Golf Club emerged victorious at the Third President PGA Professional Golf Championship, marking one of the most remarkable comebacks in recent memory.

Though not part of the final flight and flying slightly under the radar throughout the early stages of the tournament, Alam surged to the top with a sensational performance on the final day. Carding a brilliant 66 in Round 3, he completed the tournament with a total of 211 strokes (71, 74, 66), outclassing tournament favorites and seasoned pros.

Final Leaderboard – Top Performers

Champion: Mohammad Alam – 211 (71, 74, 66)

Runners-Up: Ahmed Baig – 214 (72, 68, 74), and Muhammad Munir – 214 (69, 72, 74)

Third Place: Ashiq Hussain – 219

The final round saw Alam overtake the leaders, including crowd favorites Ahmed Baig, Muhammad Munir, and Muhammad Zubair, who had all teed off in the final flight. Despite the pressure, Alam’s calm demeanor and clinical precision paid off, lifting him to the top of the leaderboard.

 

Notable performances also came from:

Muhammad Shahzad (Lahore Garrison), finishing 5th with a score of 220.

Kashif Masih, Mudassir Iqbal, and Shahid Pervaiz, who were tied with scores of 223.

Players like Matloob Ahmed (Lahore Garrison) and M. Naqas (Margalla Greens) also showcased consistent play across all three days.

The tournament was not without its challenges. Day 2 was disrupted by rain, forcing adjustments to tee times and schedule changes that tested the patience and adaptability of the 102 competing professionals.

After Round 1, Ahmed Baig had taken the early lead with a score of 69, trailed by Muhammad Zubair (70), Muhammad Abid (71), and Mohammad Alam (71). But it was Alam’s masterful play in the final round that sealed his name in the history books.

The closing ceremony was graced by Lt. Gen. Abdul Aziz, President of the Punjab Golf Association, who distributed trophies and prizes to the deserving winners.

 

Mohammad Alam’s victory is more than just a tournament win—it’s a testament to grit, determination, and the unpredictable beauty of golf. With this performance, Alam not only secures the championship but also carves his name among the elite professionals of Pakistani golf. This win is expected to be a turning point in his career, as he continues to rise on the national circuit.
