The eighth match of the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2025 will witness hosts Pakistan take on West Indies at the iconic Gaddafi Stadium. Set to kick off at 9:30 am, this contest holds immense importance as both teams battle for momentum and crucial points in the tournament.

Pakistan have been in scintillating form, starting their campaign with two dominant victories against Ireland and Scotland. Fatima Sana’s side has excelled in all departments, displaying impressive teamwork and determination. The skipper will look to maintain their unbeaten streak with another solid performance against the experienced West Indies.

In their last outing, Aliya Riaz and Muneeba Ali delivered stellar performances to ensure a comfortable win over Scotland. Muneeba Ali, opening the batting, smashed a remarkable 71 off 72 balls, anchoring Pakistan’s chase. She was well supported by Aliya Riaz, who scored an unbeaten 68 off 70 balls, steering the team home with composure.

Captain Fatima Sana has been a standout performer with the ball, picking up 4 for 23 in just five overs against Scotland. Alongside her, the likes of Diana Baig, Nashra Sandhu, and Rameen Shamim have formed a potent bowling attack capable of dismantling opposition lineups.

West Indies come into this match on the back of a hard-fought victory over Ireland. Despite their success, the team has yet to showcase their full potential in the tournament and will need to elevate their game to overcome a confident Pakistan side.

In their rain-affected encounter, Chinelle Henry played a crucial role with an unbeaten 46 off 36 balls, while seasoned campaigners Stafanie Taylor (46 off 56) and Zaida James (36 off 54) contributed vital runs. Skipper Hayley Matthews also chipped in with a brisk 23 off 18 balls.

The West Indies bowling attack, led by Hayley Matthews, was instrumental in defending their total. Matthews claimed 4 for 24 in 6.2 overs, supported by Karishma Ramharack and Aaliyah Alleyne, who picked up two wickets apiece. Their ability to strike at crucial moments will be key against Pakistan’s in-form batting lineup.

Historically, West Indies have dominated this rivalry, winning 27 out of 37 ODIs against Pakistan. However, Pakistan will draw confidence from their last encounter, where they secured a narrow four-run victory, chasing down 192 runs.

Muneeba Ali, the Pakistan’s left-handed opener has been in fine form, providing strong starts at the top. While Aliya Riaz, is a reliable middle-order batter capable of anchoring the innings on whom the team can rely. Similarly, Fatima Sana, the captain led by example, excelling with both bat and ball.

From the West Indies side, Hayley Matthews, is an all-rounder and pivotal figure with both bat and ball while Stafanie Taylor, is a seasoned batter known for her consistency in the middle order and Chinelle Henry, is considered dependable lower-order batter who can change the game with her finishing ability.

The pitch at Gaddafi Stadium is expected to favor batters, offering consistent bounce and carry. Bowlers, particularly spinners, may find assistance as the match progresses. The average first-innings score in recent women’s ODIs at this venue has been 235 runs.

The weather is set to be clear with warm temperatures and minimal humidity, creating ideal conditions for cricket.

Teams batting first have enjoyed success at this venue during the tournament. Both captains are likely to opt for batting first, aiming to post a challenging total and capitalize on scoreboard pressure.

Given their current form, Pakistan enter this contest as favorites. With in-form players like Fatima Sana, Muneeba Ali, and Aliya Riaz in their ranks, they possess the firepower to overcome the West Indies. However, the visitors’ experience and depth make them a formidable opponent capable of springing surprises. However, expect a thrilling contest, with Pakistan slightly ahead in the race for victory.
