The 11th JA Zaman Memorial Open Golf Championship
2025 at Lahore Gymkhana Golf Course witnessed an exciting blend of skill,
perseverance, and weather-induced drama as players demonstrated exceptional
performances amidst unpredictable conditions.
Parkha Ijaz emerged as the standout performer in the
Ladies Amateur Division, clinching the gross title with a remarkable score of
234. Her impressive second-round scores of 71 and 70 solidified her dominance,
underpinned by precise putting and controlled course navigation. Bushra Fatima
(239) and Aania Farooq Syed (247) secured second and third places in the gross
category, completing the podium.
In the net category, Saqiba Batool leveraged her
17-handicap to take the top spot with a net score of 230. Aleesa Rashid (262)
and Ana James Gill (238) followed in second and third positions, showcasing
tactical brilliance and determination.
The second round of the Men’s Professional Division saw
Muhammad Shabbir showcase his class, delivering a brilliant 65—an improvement
on his first-round 69. His ability to adapt to wet and softened conditions
highlighted his mastery over the game, reaffirming his position as the
championship favorite.
Talib Hussain and Asif Ali made remarkable recoveries,
each carding 67s after challenging first rounds, while Muhammad Minhaj climbed
to second place with a composed 68. Conversely, players like Kamran Shafiq and
Muhammad Zubair struggled under the demanding conditions, underscoring the
importance of precision and adaptability.
An interesting pattern emerged as six of the top ten
players improved their scores, reflecting mental toughness and technical
adjustments. The average score for the top 10 dropped significantly, while the
overall field showed a slight scoring increase due to the challenging
conditions.
The opening day’s rain forced delays, particularly
affecting the amateur division’s first round. However, the tournament was
salvaged by the relentless efforts of ground staff armed with blowers and
rollers, ensuring play could resume smoothly. Their commitment played a pivotal
role in maintaining fairness and competition.
Tournament organizers commended players and staff for
their resilience. Chief Referee Munazza Shaheen played a crucial role in
enforcing consistency and fairness, particularly in rain-affected areas.
“This championship is about more than scores; it reflects
the spirit of sportsmanship and dedication,” remarked one official.
The JA Zaman Memorial Open continues to stand as a
testament to the resilience and passion of golfers, and this year’s event
reinforced its reputation as a prestigious and memorable tournament.
