Pakistan’s rising golf stars head to Sri Lanka

Golf in Pakistan may not always grab the headlines, but two of the country’s brightest amateurs are about to put the green shirts in the spotlight. Saad Habib Malik and Nouman Ilyas will carry Pakistan’s hopes at the 134th Sri Lankan National Golf Championship, teeing off on September 23 at the legendary Royal Colombo Golf Club.
This isn’t just any tournament. With more than a century of history, the Sri Lankan National Championship is one of Asia’s most respected stages for amateur golf. It also carries WAGR points, making it a crucial platform for players aiming to climb the global rankings.
Saad has been turning heads for years. From winning the 64th Pakistan Amateur Golf Championship to finishing as runner-up at the Dallas Amateur Championship in the US, he’s steadily built a reputation as Pakistan’s next big thing. His national junior title only adds to his growing résumé.
Nouman, on the other hand, is the calm force of the duo. Known for his consistency, he has flown Pakistan’s flag in SAARC and Asia-Pacific amateur events, proving himself as one of the country’s most reliable performers.
The two aren’t just competing for individual glory — they’re out to lift Pakistan’s profile in international golf. With the Pakistan Golf Federation backing their journey, this event could be another stepping stone in building recognition for the sport back home.
As they prepare to test their skills against South Asia’s best, one thing is certain: Saad and Nouman won’t just be playing golf — they’ll be playing for pride, progress, and Pakistan.
