LRC Winter Meeting opens with shock outcomes
Asher Butt
The opening day of the Lahore Race Club Winter Meeting 2025 turned into a rollercoaster for punters and fans, as the script was ripped apart by one upset after another. Out of seven scheduled races, only War Command lived up to its billing, while outsiders and flukes stole the show in a day that showcased the sheer unpredictability of horse racing.
Gallop In Glory sparks the fire
The day began with Gallop In Glory, a rank outsider, galloping past the field in the Class VII Division VI & VII opener. Favorite King Asia could do no better than second, while Mehsi Babu surprised all by grabbing third. From that very moment, punters sensed trouble.
Mr. Asia surprises in second
The trend continued as Mr. Asia powered home in the second race (Class VII Division VI), leaving the fancied Thunder Man chasing shadows. The shock deepened when Awais Prince snatched third, reminding everyone that nothing is guaranteed on the turf.
War Command offers brief relief
For a while, sanity returned. The third race (Class VII Division V & VI) went as expected, with favorite War Command stamping authority in style. Yes Commander followed, while Zindagi, a fluke, sneaked into third. It was the lone bright spot for bettors banking on form.
Haseeb Thunder strikes unexpectedly
The fourth race (Class VII Division IV) tilted back to chaos as Haseeb Thunder surprised the field with victory. Absolutely Not secured second, while favorite Sehar disappointed by settling for third.
New York City leaves everyone guessing
By the fifth race (Class VII Division III), the trend of unpredictability was undeniable. New York City, barely tipped by anyone, stormed to first place. Generosity took second, while Thunder Boy (KRC) had to settle for third, leaving punters shaking their heads.
War Heroes Cup declared void
The much-anticipated War Heroes Memorial Cup, scheduled as the sixth race, fizzled out after being declared void due to lack of sufficient competition—a rare anticlimax on an otherwise chaotic day.
Sardar Bay closes with a bang
The finale, a Class VII Division I & II showdown, produced yet another stunner. Sardar Bay surged to victory, upsetting the odds. Favorite Son of Sultan held second, while Prince Eissa stunned with a third-place finish.
Day of the outsiders
For punters, it was a day of dashed expectations. For racing lovers, it was pure theatre—proof that in horse racing, there’s no script. The first day of the Winter Meeting will be remembered not for predictable outcomes, but for the rise of outsiders and the reminder that every race is anyone’s to win.
