A day of shocks, surprises, and a few favourites at LRC
Horse racing fans at the Lahore Race Club witnessed a rollercoaster of emotions as Thursday’s card unfolded with one upset after another. While a handful of favourites delivered as expected, the majority of races left punters scratching their heads.
The day opened with a stunner — Khan Sahib stormed ahead to take the first race in surprising style. Barrister added to the drama by sneaking into second place, leaving favourite Good Boy trailing in third.
Punters breathed a sigh of relief in the second race, where Raftar, the hot favourite, dominated with ease. But the surprises weren’t far away as Royal Stone shocked with a strong second-place finish, and Macs, a fluke entry, claimed third.
The third race kept spectators on the edge of their seats as Rayyan Prince produced a thrilling finish to pip Victory Bulbul right at the wire. Ehsan Dohi Choice added another unexpected twist by finishing third.
The fourth race brought balance back for bettors when War Command lived up to its favourite tag with a powerful win. Yet again, surprises followed close behind with Cinderella’s Dream grabbing second and Mera Gondal, a rank outsider, securing third.
The shocks returned in the fifth race, where fluke entry Golden Heart galloped to an unlikely victory. To add to the drama, Al Shouq and Thunder Boy, both unfancied, completed the places in second and third.
The last race of the day gave fans something to cheer about as Red Rock justified its favourite status with a commanding triumph. But the underdogs had the final word with Nisha (second) and Luna Afzaal (third) upsetting expectations once more.
It was a day that summed up the unpredictable nature of horse racing — favourites under pressure, flukes shining bright, and punters riding a wave of highs and lows.
