In a thrilling turn of events, three out of five races were claimed by underdogs during the 8th Day Summer Meeting 2025 at the Lahore Race Club, held on a warm Sunday evening. While two pre-race favourites managed to live up to expectations, the rest of the card was defined by unexpected performances that shook punters and delighted casual racegoers.

Smart Fighter stuns field

The opening Quetta Plate turned heads right from the start. Smart Fighter, a relatively unknown name, powered through to clinch a surprising victory. Thunder Prince, also not heavily backed, came in second. Meanwhile, Thunder Cloud, the pre-race favourite, settled for a modest third place in a disappointing outing.

Daddy Cool holds his nerve

In a more predictable result, the crowd-favourite Daddy Cool ran a composed race to claim first place. Backed only as a fluke, Zaman Sahib impressed many by grabbing second. The expected place-finisher, Thunder Man, lived up to that prediction by crossing the line in third.

Absolutely Not dominates, Macs surprises

The third event went according to form at the top, with Absolutely Not — the standout favourite — storming to a convincing win. Generosity took second as anticipated in the place category, but the real surprise came in the form of Macs, who edged his way into third against the odds.

Luckvir upsets expectations

Though backed only for a place finish, Luckvir defied predictions and galloped to victory. New York City, an outsider by most accounts, snatched second, while Dubawi’s Angel, considered a fluke chance, managed a respectable third. The favourites were nowhere to be seen in this unexpected result.

Son Of Sultan shocks field

The closing race saw Son Of Sultan emerge as the upset winner, stealing the spotlight from the well-favoured Brigadier, who had to settle for second. Elizabeth, seen only as a fluke possibility, stunned the field to secure third.

Sunday’s races were a rollercoaster of form-breaking performances and surprising podium finishes. The dominance of underdogs in three out of five events has added a new level of excitement to the ongoing Summer Meeting 2025. Punters are now likely to approach future race cards with extra caution, knowing that surprises may be just around the corner.

With the season heating up — both literally and figuratively — fans can look forward to more action, drama, and unexpected victories in the coming weeks.
