LAHORE: Newly-appointed President of the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA), Arif Saeed, has emphasized the importance of collective efforts to restore Pakistan’s positive image on the global stage through sports.

Addressing members of the POA Executive Committee at the Pakistan Olympic House in Lahore, he highlighted the need to rebuild trust within the international sports community, a step he deemed vital for the revival of international sports in the country.

Reflecting on Pakistan’s illustrious sporting history, Arif Saeed noted the country’s golden era when it simultaneously held world titles in cricket, hockey, squash, and snooker. While acknowledging the natural ebb and flow of success in sports, he stressed the importance of consistent efforts and innovation to regain international prominence.

“The POA is committed to advocating for our athletes and ensuring they receive the recognition they deserve. By fostering collaboration among stakeholders, including the Pakistan Sports Board, we aim to revitalize Pakistan’s sports sector with unwavering determination,” said Arif Saeed.

The meeting was attended by key figures in Pakistan’s sports fraternity, including POA Secretary General Muhammad Khalid Mahmood, Vice Presidents Major (Retd.) Majid Wasim and Andleeb Sandhu, and other prominent officials from various sports federations. Arif Saeed urged them to submit actionable proposals within the first 100 days and outline long-term strategies to promote sports at both national and international levels.

He also stressed the importance of aligning efforts with international bodies like the International Olympic Committee (IOC). “The IOC is actively working towards athlete well-being globally. We must follow suit by leveraging IOC programs and support from International Sports Federations to enhance the development of athletes in Pakistan,” he added.

Addressing office bearers from multiple sports federations, including the National Rifle Association, Softball Federation, and Islamabad Olympic Association, Arif Saeed underlined the importance of unified strategies and effective implementation. He reiterated the POA’s commitment to fostering a harmonious working relationship with all stakeholders to strengthen the foundation of sports in Pakistan.

The POA President concluded by emphasizing the critical role of collaboration and vision in achieving lasting progress. “Our goal is not just to revive the glory days but to ensure sustainable growth and development for future generations of Pakistani athletes,” he said and added that with a renewed focus and collective resolve, the POA aims to navigate the challenges ahead and restore Pakistan’s status as a powerhouse in global sports.
