International hockey returns as Dutch Club OHC Bully reach city

LAHORE: In a significant development for the revival of international hockey in Pakistan, a 21-member Dutch hockey club, OHC Bully, has landed in Lahore. The team was welcomed at Allama Iqbal Airport by renowned hockey Olympians Khawaja Junaid, Junaid Chatta, Masoodur Rahman, and officials from the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

The visit marks the return of a European club to Pakistan after 21 years, and the arrival of OHC BL E is seen as a positive step towards rejuvenating international hockey activities in the country. The Chief of Mission for the visiting contingent is Tahir Shah, with Manager Tin Ling Hsijn and Referee Patrick Miller accompanying the Dutch club.

The visiting team had a meeting with Dutch ambassador in the evening at the hotel and that followed their practice session at the National Hockey Stadium.

Three matches are scheduled between OHC Bully and the HEC talent team. The first two matches will be played in Lahore on February 19th and 21st, while Islamabad will host the third match on February 30th.

Expressing his delight, Dutch captain Ruben Kitter mentioned that it was his first visit to Pakistan, and he is pleased to be part of the initiative. He acknowledged Pakistan's significant role in the promotion of hockey and expressed eagerness for the upcoming matches.

Khawaja Junaid, a hockey Olympian, highlighted the importance of the Dutch club's arrival, stating that it would contribute to the revival of international hockey in Pakistan. He credited Punjab Police, the Holland Embassy, and Lahore Qalandars for their crucial roles in inviting the European Club.

The first match of the series has been dedicated to the martyrs of Punjab Police, adding a poignant touch to the event. The Chief Organizer emphasized the significance of this visit in strengthening sports ties and fostering goodwill between the two nations.
